Improve your seat Clinic

Posted on 05 October 2017

What do you wear when you are going to a clinic called 'improve your seat' and you know it's going to be bare back riding on vaulting horses?

The invitation said: Wear super stretchy Joddies / breeches

And for good reason! You had to be able to lift your legs up and over the horse and be comfortable in different positions.

I wasn't sure what to wear: Performa Ride tights or my Balboa breeches. The reason why I was hesitating was because the weather forecast was 35-37 degrees.

The PerformaRide tights are super light and cool and would be perfect for the weather. But the Balboa breeches have a zipper and belt loops which I quite like (it's just a weird thing... )

As you can see, I finally chose the Harry's Horse Balboa breeches with knee patches. These gave me perfect range of motion without getting stuck.

(However, I kept thinking about those super cool and fast drying PerformaRide tights... it did seem like a super option)

Many of the other participants who were wearing 'sticky bum' or full seat breeches were struggling with the stickiness.

It basically meant their seat was stuck to the pad and they couldn't make the adjustments needed to improve their seat.

My take from that is that there is something to say for riding in breeches without a full seat every now and then to get a good feeling of your neutral/natural seat again to be more effective in the saddle.

The Balboa breeches are perfect for everyday riding, although I would probably choose the PerformaRide riding tights for beach rides because they dry so quickly. It just sounds so much more comfortable to wear...

We have a number of styles available in the Harry's Horse range if you're looking for breeches without a full seat. Seriously, look for them. It's the best thing for your seat and it will make you a better rider when you alternate between full seat and no seat breeches...

(pinky promise!)
