I am too busy to ride my horse – help!!

Dressage

Having fun with our horses is our goal

The most frustrating part of having horses is trying to fit everything in our schedule. We have to work (well … most of us) to earn money to pay for our horses, the vet bills, the farrier, the produce store, the rugs, bridles etc. But work means being away from home at least 40 hours per week… which means that there isn’t much time left to actually ride our horses.

So finally you have time to ride and filled with great enthusiasm you grab your horse from the paddock or stable… and guess what?!?

  1. the horse is lame
  2. the horse lost a shoe
  3. the horse has sore teeth and doesn’t accept the bridle
  4. you ran out of pineshavings for the stable
  5. you realise that your horse was due for worming / vaccination/… etc

And what about that clinic or competition you signed up for – only to find out that your horse float registration has lapsed? Or worse even.. you didn’t get around doing that annual safety check for your float!!

This happened to me all the time! All I want to do is ride my horses and enjoy being with them… it relaxes me and makes me happy. It also gives me energy to deal with all the other bits and pieces in my life (like work!).

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you had somebody to look after your appointments? Like a personal assistant for your horses?

EXACTLY!!

Why can’t I find sawdust in Queensland?

Over the years many people have been struggling to get a steady supply of good quality sawdust and pine shavings for their horses. Where this wasn’t much of an issue 5 – 10 years ago, it is not almost impossible to find a reliable supplier of dust-free pine shavings.

We did some research why this happens and the answer from an expert in the timber industry is surprising and simple at the same time:

There is certainly a bigger push to reuse/recycle waste products.

In our business we send our waste timber products including sawdust back to the sawmill who uses it as fuel for there drying kilns, a win/win. No dumping fees for us, no fuel cost for them. there’s also a push to have waste timber products used to fire boilers for power stations

These problems are now over!

Horses-store.com is selling Guardian Pine Shavings from our stable doors in Dayboro. Every 2 – 4 weeks a new shipment of pine shavings arrives at our doorstep so you never have to worry about your supply.

The pine shavings are imported from the US where they are purpose made for the equestrian industry. These pine shavings are dust free and triple kiln dried for extra absorption, which makes cleaning stables a breeze and ensures you don’t have to waste as much of the product.

Don’t get caught out again with inferior quality pine shavings or lack of supply – our supplier has plenty in its way to Australia!

Why Guardian Pine shavings made the biggest difference to my horse

Guardian Pine Shavingsovitz in stable

Ovitz happy with Guardian Pine Shavings

When my horse got sick we looked everywhere for a better solution for his stable bedding. Obviously Straw was not the answer as the quality of the product can not be guaranteed, and the supply isn’t always available. The original reason for us to use straw is because we couldn’t find a reliable provider of sawdust and  pine shavings! No supplier in Queensland could guarantee a steady supply of consistent quality. And rather than having our horses on concrete we opted for straw. But with Ovitz getting so sick with a respiratory infection we couldn’t use straw anymore as it was too dusty.

We tried a number of options, some better than others, but when you take shipping to Queensland into consideration there really was only one option in the end: Guardian Pine shavings.

Yes – this product is imported from the US but it is still cheaper to use than some of the products I found locally.

One of the main benefits for me is the fact that these pine shavings are purpose made for horses. They are not a by-product of some building or construction site.. it is specifically created with the health of your horses in mind.
